占星家John Townley著有Composite Charts一書中序文提到，一般用的比較盤(Comparison)是用來了解雙方是如何影響彼此和感受彼此的(how two people affect each other, and how they make each other feel)，而組合盤(Composite)則是在描述當這兩個人在一起後會如何進展(how the relationship is likely to fare)。換言之，後者講的就是兩個人在一起後的化學作用。只是需要雙方正確的出生時間與地點，實務上較難應用。
